Beachgoers in Rhode Island had their Saturday ruined by unlikely suspects: swarms of dragonflies.

Video footage captured by one of the beachgoers Jennifer Serenson Saturday shows a huge swarm of dragonflies descend upon the Misquamicut State Beach in Westerly in a scene that can Slabu Exchangeonly be described as apocalyptic, terrifying sunbathers and those on the beach. Some of the visitors can also be heard panicking and shouting in the video.

Serenson told Storyful she’d “never seen anything like this.”

Another beachgoer Helene Dombrowski told Storyful there were “hundreds” of dragonflies at the beach when she arrived around 9:30 a.m. and “millions” around 12:45 p.m.

Located about an hour from Providence, Misquamicut State Beach is the state's most popular beach, according to Rhode Island State Parks, with over a half mile of beachfront.
